what is acne

Acne is one of the most common problems in adolescent teens affecting nearly seventeen million people in the United States.

Acne is nothing but a disorder involving sebaceous glands and hair follicles. Acne results from the clogging of sebaceous glands leading to the formation of pimples and cysts.
The condition usually begins with the onset of puberty.
Going by the facts, as teens attain puberty the androgens also called male sex hormones are produced in high number leading to sebaceous glands becoming over active which results in sebum being produced in high proportions.

Almost every teenager has suffered acne at some point, in some it can be mild with just a few pimples or "zits" occurring every so often. In more severe cases though, the acne can be a variety of spots called whiteheads or blackheads, or even worse they can be large red, inflamed spots termed cysts.
Severe acne can in some cases leave scarring, and these skin pimples, spots and cysts usually change the tone of the skin, leaving a darker tone.

Acne is not dangerous, but can leave skin scars.
Human skin has pores (tiny holes) which connect to oil glands located under the skin. The glands are connected to the pores via follicles - small canals. Sebum is an oily liquid produced by these glands. Dead skin cells are brought to the surface of the skin by the sebum carrying them through the follicles.

A small hair grows through the follicle out of the skin. Oil accumulates under the skin when these follicles get blocked, resulting in pimples.

There are lots of treatments available today to treat acne. The primary goal of the treatment is to reduce scars and better appearance. There are various treatments and the doctor decides which specific treatment you need based on: the extent of acne problem, age, medical history, overall health, tolerance to specific medications and procedures, expectations and last but not the least what patients prefer.

A very good treatment for mild and moderate adult acne is a chemical peel. A chemical peel exfoliates your skin; dirt is cleansed from the skin, and dead skin cells which are clogging the pores are removed. This causes fewer acne pimples and spots to form. Chemical peels may also help to reduce some of the skin discolouration and uneven skin tone caused by acne.

A very cost effective acne treatment is offered by chemical peels. This acne treatment is also very safe.
The top layers of the skin are exfoliated and cleansed by superficial chemical skin peels that remove all the dead skin cells. We usually recommend a regime of six peels, with at least one week between each treatment.

A reduction in the amount of acne breakouts will be noticeable, and skin texture will improve too.

Only a credible skin care clinic should be approached for your acne treatment chemical peel.

It is important to consult a reputable clinic to obtain advice on how the chemical peel treatment will benefit your skin type, before embarking on treatment with chemical peels for acne.
