Dog Toys

On top of paying for their vaccinations, daily food, and giving them the attention they need, owners have to provide entertainment for them as well. But sometimes it can be hard to find the right toy. So for all those canines out there that tend to chew through bones and toys as quickly as they are placed in front of them, here are a few tough dog toys that might give them a little bit of a challenge.

There are different types of goodies for different size dogs and different purposes. Before heading to the local pet store and buying what looks like the toughest toy available, consider what games the dog likes to play and in what scenario they will be using this toy the most. A hardcore chewer will need a different toy than the tugger or the fetcher.

There is a hurley chew toy that is available and is made of Zogoflex. It is in the shape of a bone and bounces, floats, and can be hit in the air. The best part of this toy is that the makers will give the owner a free toy if the dog is able to tear it apart. Search for rubber balls out there that are hollow in the middle where the owner can put the dog's favorite treats. This comes in various sizes and is extremely durable and safe for any pet.

Mega toys are another option that consist of seven layers of material. With three layers of industrial grad material, then another three layers of plastic coating, and a final layer of soft fleece, all head together by seven rows of stitching, it makes for an impossible break through. There are different shapes and sizes that are available, so look around and see which one looks like the best fit.

For those owners that enjoy giving their dogs more of a challenge though, there are different games out there such as seek-a-treat where the pup has to move pieces around to find the hidden treasure. There are also toys that dispense treats if shaken and squeezed in the right direction.

Another option would be to find long lasting dog bones. Depending on the breed, age, and personality of the dog, this could be anything. White rawhide bones, bully sticks, or beef bones are a few options. The bully sticks are supposedly safest to eat, but they cost a pretty penny. Nylabones are another option that will last longer and might be a better investment if the dog likes them.

Be aware though that many of these objects have chemicals in them such as BPA and phthalates. These chemicals are also commonly found in kids' toys as well. It gives them more elasticity and is also found in leashes, tennis balls, collars, and dog beds. It is important to change them regularly. The longer they sit out and age, the higher the concentration of the chemicals. These can have lasting impact on the dog and their offspring.

There are many tough dog toys available that will take even the feistiest of dogs a while to get through. Then there are toys that are there to provide more a mental challenge for the dogs. But it is important to look out for the dogs health, so take a look at what they are made of before purchasing.
