Recovering from Back Surgery

Back surgery may involve your spine and its aftermath could be a whole lot of pain. You may be asleep and under a dose of anesthesia to protect you from the shock but once you wake up, you might pray for a faster recovery to end your suffering. Aside from the hurting, stitches or incisions from a back surgery can disable a person from doing many things. All in all, it could be a long shot before this kind of distress subsides but there are awesome ways to manage the pain and heal faster.

Ease the Pain

It is hard to have those stitches at your back and one thing that you might notice aside from the hurting is that, it is very hard to get up from bed. Before you can manage to do so, you have to deal first with the pain which somewhat seems like a torture. The prescriptions that you will receive to heal and manage the pain depend on the wounds that you have got. These would include antibiotics, anti-histamines and pain relievers. Doctors may also advise you to apply some ointment and creams on your wounds and to avoid some foods that may cause swelling and allergy.

Follow the advice of specialists and take in everything that you have to. Stay in the hospital. Aside from taking in medications, there are more treatments or methods that you can consider to aid the healing process. You can use different alternatives that are proven to reduce pain such as moist heat or icing. Every time that you feel the pain, take in a prescribed reliever. Do not wait for it to get worse as it will only slow down your recovery.

Getting Enough Rest, Exercise and Post-Operative Bracing

For a recovering person, plenty of rest and sleep is needed. Re hydration may be advised by doctors as well to help on the regeneration of tissues that were damaged because of the operation. Seek for a comfortable position for your back or you can also request for a better mattress. A surgeon may recommend attaching a post-operative brace to support your back. You must learn on how to put it on and take it off on your own.

Once the wounds have recovered a little and it has been approved by the physician, a patient can start on different therapies and slight exercises which would aid them on their recovery. Ask a physical therapist or your own doctor to help you out. Some movements and exercises can cause a faster recovery so that they can easily get back in action. Exercise programs are usually being given to patients by specialists.
